Why Africa?

I think we can all agree that most of us grew up watching the National Geographic documentaries. It was the images, sounds, and animals that made us fall in love with our planet. For kids, as we were, watching those images many years ago, made us realise we wanted to be just like those cameramen and photographers, having that experience as your day-to-day. Watching people like Dr. Jane Goodall, Sir David Attenborough, Dereck and Beverly Joubert, and many more, inspired us to follow our big love for our animals and planet.

Why Africa, now you may ask?

Well… scientists believe that the first humanlike creatures appeared in Africa perhaps 3 to 5 million years ago. Knowing that we already feel a strong connection to the continent.

Both of our parents have been in Africa many times before, even before we were born. And we’ve always heard them saying that Africa had a special charm to it, that was magical, but I never understood what they meant… until I visited it.

And they were right!!!

“If I have ever seen magic, it has been in Africa” – John Hemingway

When I first visited South Africa in 2015, I fell in love with the country very quickly and soon after, I fell in love with the continent.

Africa is a magical place! First of all it is a beautiful place, everyone is super friendly and we can not forget… the wildlife!

Living in Portugal, we rarely see wild animals. So going to Africa and seeing wild animals roaming around free is absolutely fantastic and breathtaking. And the sunsets and sunrises… I promise you, there’s nothing like it. The sun looks bigger (although it is just an illusion) and extremely red, a lot of animals come to life (you can see it and ear it). You connect with nature. And that is more powerful than anything else.

“Africa changes you forever, like nowhere on earth. Once you have been there, you will never be the same” – Brian Jackman

And of course, Africa has another special meaning to us…

It was in Africa that we met each other.

It’s crazy to think that although we lived in the same city, country, had friends in common… we met on the other side of the world. I never believed in the energy of attractions or destiny, but I do now! It’s funny how the universe works, hein…?

Unfortunately, more and more people are locked to a screen, living our lives detached from the natural world and its wilderness.

With that, we would like to invite you to come along as we tell our story and show what Africa has to give.

We inspire because we care

Love,

Bea & João
